Soundtrack of life (repost from Word Press)

Isn't it funny how music often triggers memories from your past, it got me thinking about the big part music plays in my life. My mother loves music and she always has music playing...often terrible country stuff that makes you want to cry! But thanks to Mum my childhood is littered with memories of music. It all started with Jim Reeves and the song "He'll have to go". I secretly love this song shhh don't tell anybody least of all Mum. ( I give her heaps about her taste in music). Then I remember Elvis music and his movies. I can still remember getting home from school to hear he had died. I love Elvis and will admit to owning his greatest hits. He is one of a kind. Next she moved onto Meatloaf, and actually wore out the album and had to buy a second one.

One of my favourite memories involving music is sitting down to watch Ready to Roll at 6pm on a Saturday night. I loved Joan Jett, Pat Benatar and Duran Duran. Hey it was the 80s!

Then Neil arrived in my life along with Dire Straits, George Thorogood, and Steve Earle. We used to spend a lot of time going for drives in his ute listening to music.

Brothers in Arms was my favourite album of Dire Straits. We have moved on from LPs to tapes now and one of my first purchases when I started work was a stereo that you could tape on. It was so annoying when taping off the radio the DJ would talk through the song! Thank goodness for Itunes! I was also introduced to the Doors and this will always remind me of parties with that sweet smell of dope getting the idiots stoned. I never touched the stuff I was stupid enough on beer!

Though my 20s I had a real mixture of music tastes from the latest pop songs to reggae, ( Bob Marley and UB40 are in my collection). One Night in Bangkok reminds of going to the drags with Neil, Julian and other hot rodders. Funky Town and Mony Mony remind of dancing at the Homestead tavern in Masterton with Paul, Petra, Mark, Tim and others.

In my 30s my song choice was influenced by movies like Dirty Dancing (love that Patrick Swazye), City of Angels (Iris) and Coyote Ugly, (Leeanne Rimes). Yes definitely chick flick era.

Then the boys arrived and the beginning of music designed to make you go insane very quickly!Though after the 20th time of watching the Wiggles Anthony started to look attractive LOL!

Now Western has started defining his music taste, it started with having to listen to Queen's We will Rock You over and over in the car for 3 MONTHS! Then he moved onto Dirty Old Town by the Pogues (which played really loud used to get Ethan to sleep when he was a baby). Now he listens to Who Let the Dogs Out and anything with a rocky beat. We are definitely going to have to sound proof his room and invest in earplugs.

Now I have a MP3 player and am listening to my own music. My playlist includes Muse (Supermassive Black Hole) from Twilight of course, Bad Things, theme song to True Blood, Melissa Etheridge (Bring Me Some Water a song that reminds me of my cousins Waynes 21st where I got horribly drunk), Anastasia, Elvis (of course), Shaggy, The Commitments (love that movie soundtrack its a shame Andrew Strong didn't keep singing), All Saints (Lady Marmalade), Matchbox 20, The Rolling Stones, my favourite 60s band, and there's a little bit of Abba too. I have over 200 songs so far but will be upgrading to a Ipod so I can put them into different categories.

Whats your favourite music?
