I think the weirdest name I have heard is Deja Vu, imagining labelling your kid that, the poor thing. Would they grow up feeling like they've done this before?
Maybe they have in a past life.
I'm always interested in how people get their names especially if they are unusual. I worked for a guy whose family named the eldest son in each generation the maiden name of the mother, luckily they had good names like Lindsay and Duncan. When you go through Neil's family tree there are a lot of Matthews and Williams, sometimes together but Neil's Dad was named after an uncle who died in the war on the Western Front. He was named Western Frank, not the name of the uncle. Neil has Frank as a second name and we named Western after Neil's Dad. I remember being asked what Westerns name was in the Drs waiting room once and then he asked me his second name, once I told him it was Jake he said at least he could use that name instead! How RUDE! Ethans name was just one we liked, we had a list of possible names and combinations on the fridge for months before he arrived. I ruled out Country because I didn't like the way it shortened! LOL!
Some people have said we need another two kids to get all the points of the compass. If we had a girl she was going to be called Miranda Sheryl. Sheryl in memory of Neil's sister who died suddenly at age 45. I liked the name Ruby but Neil thought it was too hippy like!
I was named after the Hollies song Carrie Ann, it was a hit the year I was born. My name is hyphenated but I quickly shortened to just Carey. Just a note to parents please name your children with the most common spelling cause everybody gets it wrong! People always call me Kerry as well but I answer to that as well just don't call me late to dinner! LOL!
Here I am at 4 and I still have this dress though it's a bit faded now and doesn't quite fit! Since I'm not going to have any more children I've been thinking of dressing Ethan in it and taking a photo but he might be traumatized for life!
Mum chose quite different names for us considering we were all born in the late 60s early 70s. My sisters are called Gail Lavinia and Rachel Mary and my brother is Lance William. William is a family name on my step fathers side, his father was called Thomas Birch and my stepfather is Thomas William. I like Birch but only as a second name.
I have seen some unusual names through Playcentre. I love people who are brave enough to use unconventional names. I've seen Kerridwen, Tobia, Wuss, ( a nickname that stuck into adulthood), Bree, Willow, Meadow and Cayle for girls and Cheviot, Willoughby, Claude, and Leopold for boys. The traditional names are coming back like Charlie, Harry, Emily and my favourite Harriet. Does naming your children with names starting with the same letter make it easier or harder to remember them or do all parents go through the list of children before hitting the right one. How much influence does your name have on how you live your life? If you have a flamboyant name are you naturally a flamboyant person and are all Johns deemed to be boring?
Do you have a story behind your name?
